Hello parents and students, Journalism is a class that you may not have heard of Journalism is an honors class that students have to apply and at the end of the school year the students check if they are in the class for the next year. Journalism is a class where we work on creating the yearbook and taking pictures. All of the students that are chosen work hard and have lots of responsibilities. Students take pictures from 6th-8th grade and we strive for every student to be in the yearbook at least 2-3 times. We believe that it’s important to include everyone because we are all a team at James Monroe Middle School.
Journalism has been a class since the school first opened in August 2001. The class became complete after our amazing Journalism teacher Mrs. Allred decided to join our school in 2006-2007 Mrs. Allred has been an amazing hard working teacher for 13-14 years.
Journalism isn’t just taking pictures, it’s a lot more like learning team work. For example, students had a whole month to work on yearbook pages and they all got assigned a theme. I got lunch , but I didn’t do it alone, I had a great partner and I learned how to be more responsible and use communication skills. We both became more responsible with keeping up with our work.
Mrs. Allred's Class has been recently working on the 2020 James Monroe Talon. The Talon is a book of literary words such as poems. Students and teachers submit artwork and poems that were outstanding in their classes. Language Arts teachers are required to teach poetry. 6th 7th and 8th graders all learn about poetry and its origins. There are also a lot of artists at our school who submit their artwork to the journalism class to have more people see what amazing talents they have. Anyone can submit poems or artwork doesn't matter the grade the student is in. If you need more information contact Mrs. Allred at [email protected] or visit the James Monroe Website at https://jmms-aps-nm.schoolloop.com/
