Professor Harvey teaches Media Literacy, which is like ELA but instead literacy is being taught to students through video games and technology. Professor Harvey thinks that teaching kids Language arts through something that they like doing will help them learn easier or better. So instead of reading a book and then writing a summary, it's more of playing a video game then discussing the plot. Students also watch movies and documentaries, then they summarize the film orally.
A lot of kids enjoy this type of teaching, because it engages them with literature. Now students still have to take ELA, but this is like having extra knowledge of literacy while it's being taught in a more engaging way.
"I like how we get to experience digital learning and how we get to use VR too!" - Yousef Drakmih, a student of the class. They use VR to experience the story and plot through their own point of view. It also gets them more attached to the story if they feel apart of it.
"The point of my class is to prepare students for the future that they're already behind on" - Professor Harvey. Professor Harvey believes that students haven't reached their full potential in literature, so he came up with the class to push kids further in literature.
A lot of students say that the class is an amazing experience for kids looking to have fun, and learn at the same time. Those students also say that it's a great way to help kids who might struggle in literature, and for kids who enjoy video games and technology. If a student wants to have the opportunity to work hard in a class that you'll love, then join Media Literacy.
