This Paris attacks happened on November 13, 2015. A series of coordinated terrorist attacks occurred in Paris and the northern suburb, Saint Denis. At 9:20 three-suicide bombers struck near the Stade de France and a mass shooting at restaurants, cafes, and a music venue in central Paris. The attackers killed 130 people and 368 people were injured and 99 were seriously injured. This attack was very deadly on Wikipedia it said; “This attack was the deadliest in France since World War II.”
Isis claimed responsibility for the attacks. They claimed that it was retaliation for the French airstrike on Isis in Syria and Iraq. We have had conflict in the past between Isis and the US. They used AK-47s and bombs strapped to their bodies. Terrorist attacked a soccer match between France and world champion Germany, the horror struck unexpectedly.
Jordan Bruce an 8th grader at James Monroe Middle school, was watching the soccer match when it happened and she said, “All of sudden you can hear a loud sound.”
Katelyn Vanbergen a 7th grader at James Monroe, said “I was in Paris a month before the bombing, and I can imagine how it would have been if I was there when the bombing happened. I hope they soon catch the terrorist group who killed the innocent people.”
In conclusion the Paris massacre was a disaster created by Isis to frighten and warn the world that they are powerful. But the US overcame the incident and trying harder everyday to stop the terrorist groups. Some of the attackers were caught but the cops are still looking for the attackers that got away.
The Run For The Zoo
By: Taylor Lambie
The Run for the Zoo is an annual event, held in the spring. According to http://runforthezoo.org, this year is going to be the 31st Run for the Zoo that has been held. The first Run for the Zoo occurred in the year 1985, on Sunday, May 5th. The Run for the Zoo is held on the first Sunday of May every year. This year it is going to be on Sunday, May 1st, 2016 from 7AM to 10AM.
At James Monroe there are two teachers that are in charge of it. The teachers are, Ms. Johnston and Ms. Pacheco. They helped the students that were interested to understand the information they needed. They also helped answer the students questions about the Run for the Zoo. This year, Ms. Johnston is participating in the Run for the Zoo, but Ms. Pacheco isn't.
The Run for the Zoo has a lot of choices when it comes to the courses. The courses include a half marathon, a 10K, a 5K race, a 5K fitness run, and even a Mile Fun Run for families. These are opportunities for people to exercise and donate money for a good cause. People can donate money to help improve the Zoo, the Botanic Garden, the Aquarium, and the Tingley Beach, by walking or running.
Marissa Chavez said, "I would want to do the Run for the Zoo because it is for a good cause, but I don't enjoy running."
