In March 2019 the Advocacy team kept the same goal of on Monday’s being able to work on work from other classes or do make up work to improve their grades. If the students do not have any work they need to work on or make-up the kids are allowed to read a book. On On Friday’s they are still completing a lesson and answering questions or having a class discussion. Having a class discussion can help the kids that might not understand the concept of the video understand it better. When answering questions most of the time they are allowed to work with their table group to answer unless they are working on an individual project that could be posted around the school.
The Main lesson the Advocacy team wanted the kids to learn in March was to help students focusing on their conferences and preparing their binders ready to present to their parents. The conferences were on March 7th-8th. On those two days the advocacy teachers signed the students up to explain how the year went for them and what were working on in their classes. The students also showed a good piece of work and something they could improve on from each class. The main lesson/ theme of the lessons in March were future planning and academic success. The Advocacy Team wanted to teach the kids how to plan for the future so they are successful later on in life.
In April 2019 the Advocacy team is focusing on testing. The two Advocacy team members that made. The lessons this month were Mrs. Allred and Mrs. Gomez. During the testing weeks the students will have advocacy everyday. The different goal teams of the school made up different lessons. The lessons were mostly non- academic lessons to give the students a break from academics. Some of the lessons the students made a theme park , study skills, and a documentary. The next two Advocacy’s on Fridays will be focusing on testing prep.Eighth grader Trinity Short said the most inspiring video she has watched in advocacy was the video with the chain effect of kindness.
