The 2019-2020 James Monroe Student Council has been preparing to go to state. State runs from February 13-15 2020. Student council Members were very excited for this event for the past few months. Student Council took a banner, scrapbook, multiple posters, and a chant. At state, James Monroe won several awards such as 2nd place for Raptor Buddies which is Student Council members Participating in community service, and Superhero Teacher which is recognizing the teachers at JMMS at state. Mrs. Gonzales said,” I am very proud of our council. This was beyond stressful but in the end I and everyone had fun.”
State 2020 was held at Eldorado High School. When making the scrapbook, student council members had to make individual pages with themselves on it, pages with activities, dances, friends, and assembly’s. Kim Trang says,” It is a little hard, but fun. I loved looking at the photos of state.“
The Student Council also worked on a banner to represent the school and what JMMS stands for. This year members painted a raptor in a car next to the school inspired by River Dale for a banner. Victoria Varela says ,” It was definitely hard, and required a lot of focus. I am happy it is done! It was overall fun experience though.”
One of the posters for state is Raptor Buddies. Student council members help the special education students be more involved at the school. This counts as not just as our Community service project but, we create friendships and support the community.
The other poster student council creates is Super Hero Teacher. It recognizes all the amazing teachers at James Monroe. We present the teacher with a paper cape and a book of handwritten notes.
Lastly, the chant focuses on how loud and how much spirit your school had. Every central district meeting JMMS attends as a council requires a chant. To conclude this was James Monroe Middle School state conference.
If you are Interested in joining the Student council, pick up a form in the counseling office. You may turn the form into Mrs. Gonzales room E204.
