At James Monroe Middle School, students are required to take Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. There are different classes or types of Math. In eighth grade students are offered Algebra, Honors Algebra, 8th Grade Math and Tier-Two Math. 7th graders have lots of different math options which they can be placed in, such as general-ed, accelerated 7th Grade, and tier two math. Finally 6th Graders are offered 6th grade math, accelerated 6th grade math and tier two math.
Mr. Montoya is one of the 8th grade math teachers who teaches 8th grade math, Algebra, and Honors Algebra. In Mr. Montoya’s algebra classes students are learning about how to multiply and factor binomials. Students in his Math 8 class are learning about how to find the volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres.
In 7th grade students have a lot of different types of math classes to choose from. Mrs. Benevides, one of our 7th grade math teachers, is currently teaching students about equivalent expressions and distributive property.
