The James Monroe Middle School has a QSA club, (Queer Straight Alliance) for students that are having issues at school or at home with their sexuality. The QSA club meets every Tuesday at both A and B lunches. Two years ago Adrianna Morales, a sixth grader at the time made the QSA club happen. In sixth grade Adriana Morales friend Skyla came up with the idea to create a club for students that are having problems with their sexuality. Skyla passed the idea to Adrianna Morales and went to the cooking teacher Mrs. Olsen to tell her about the idea. In seventh grade Mrs. Olsen took over the QSA club. The QSA club is currently working on a video to raise awareness for accepting gay people. The video is a gay sitcom of awareness.
Another club at James Monroe Middle School is The Bible club. The students that have A lunch meet with Ms. Simkins in room C-103 on Wednesdays. Students that have B lunch meet with Mrs. Everett in room D-103 on Wednesdays. The Bible club has a guest, Tim McPherson from Sagebrush Church comes to James Monroe Middle School to talk about the Bible. The Bible club does a lesson on the Bible every Wednesday. Savannah McSween says “ I like going to Bible club just to hangout with my friends and get to know people and learn more about the Bible.”
In QSA club Adrianna Morales says “ I like QSA because it’s a safe spot and you’ll find other people that are involved like me.” The QSA club hangs out and talks to people to let them know that they are accepted. In Bible club students like going because they like to learn more about the Bible and what it means.
