Many students have said this year has been a great year for sports at James Monroe Middle School. The A-team volleyball has gone undefeated for the third year in a row, and won the district championship for the second year in a row. The B-team volleyball did well and won most of their games. According to many of the athletes Boys basketball has also had an incredible season. A-team had a record of 3:5 and B-team had a record of 6:2.
“I really like being on the basketball team because I get to practice and get better with my friends” says 6th grader Jack Burrup from B-team.
Another sport our school has is girls basketball, both A-team and B-team had a record of 3:5. And as said by the coaches, they have shown an incredible amount of improvement since the beginning of the season. Girls A team won an incredible 4th place in the district tournament.
As girls basketball comes to an end athletes welcome spring sports. This spring the school has a variety of sports to choose from. Some of these athletics include, boys and girls soccer, and the winning track team. Track has always been the school's most popular sport, with a huge amount of kids that try out.
7th grader Gabrielle Flores says, “I like doing track because it gave me an opportunity to make new friends and it kept me busy.”
Soccer is fairly new in the school, but the program is starting to grow and more kids are becoming more involved in this sport. Many students say this has been an amazing season, and the athletes hope that next year can be just as great.
