To start off the spring season, James Monroe had both track and soccer tryouts. The soccer tryouts were on February 12 and track on March 4th, 5th, and 6th. March 4th was for the sixth graders, the 5th was for the seventh graders, and the 6th was for the eighth graders. Coach Garcia, Thomas, Estrada, Gallegos held the track tryouts while coach Anthony held soccer tryouts. To try out students had to have a physical which you could get on the school website or from the students primary doctor.
All students that tried out for track made the team. Unlike track the boys soccer team did make cuts leaving the team to a number of fifteen. The girls soccer team on the other hand was in search of girls due to the lack of girls that tried out. In the end the team found more students to play leaving their team to also be a total of fifteen.
“ I like soccer a lot because it’s a ton of fun and we get to learn a lot of new things including we get to exercise,” said Mikayla Bruner, one of the many girls who tried out for the girls soccer team.
